John Donoghue

John Donoghue BSc FCMHP is an award-winning mental health pharmacist who was previously principal clinical pharmacist in the Department of Community Psychiatry at Clatterbridge Hospital. John’s NHS experience includes primary care, hospital pharmacy and senior management at health authority level. He is a past chairman of the UK Psychiatric Pharmacy Group and a founding member of the College of Mental Health Pharmacy.

He is an honorary lecturer at the School of Pharmacy at Liverpool John Moores University and has worked with other academic and educational institutions including the national Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education, and Aston University where he supported the development of the postgraduate diploma in psychiatric therapeutics. He regularly lectures on medicines for Approved Social Worker training courses. He has over 80 peer-reviewed publications relating to the treatment of various mental illnesses including bipolar disorder, unipolar depression and schizophrenia.

He was involved with WHO Europe in their DEPCARE (depression care) project and was a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Mental Health Task Force. He has worked to develop patient education and information with MIND and Depression Alliance.
